Yeah, people who can afford to do this are going to make a killing. That's probably the point. Most Americans can't capitalize on this though, best they can do is wait it out. That works if you're not counting on that money right now.

The bigger problem is the price hikes that are going to hit us. 1/5 people can't afford a $1,000 emergency expense.

This also is taking news cycles from Trump shipping off a fully legal immigrant then saying he can't/won't bring him home. He's straight up violating the constitution.

I disagree. I think the majority of working people have SOME money in a retirement account; probably not enough, but that is a separate issue.

This dip will help EVERYONE who continues putting money into that account. When this all settles, this is a humongous wealth transfer if people stay the course. The hardest hit will be those in or near retirement (though it can be overcome with wise financial planning). It's all an individual's responsibility regardless.

Completely agree with the deportation. Can't say you made a mistake...then say you can't fix the error because it would give the other guy ground to stand on.

Also, the news cycle is so insane. Since January, we have talked about the prices of eggs, the price of gasoline, Zelensky getting kicked out, peace talks with Russia, HAMAs and Israel, mass deportation flights, DOGE findings, Signal-gate, tariffs, trade wars and the stock market, and now this (Venezuela prison).

They are in a free fall. Be a little patient and it's time to make some money.

I realize that I am out of touch.

Yesterday, we had unannounced layoffs. They actually planned it a few weeks ago, but we got a surprise audit by the FDA. [ Unrelated, but the audit went incredibly well and I was a HUGE contributor in our dept's success; moreso than our actual manager. I told him during "Man, just let me know what you need so I can make you look good"...the body language before and after told me that I'm getting a glowing review next year.]

Anyway - it started with Ms Thickums sending a message in our group chat that she saw the HR Manager walking someone out with a box of their stuff. About 15 mins later, our manager sent a text saying there were layoffs scheduled, but he didn't have any info. He called a dept meeting maybe 4 hours later to say that our dept would be untouched.

Emotionally, I was largely unphased. I was joking and sending messages saying that I would probably be walked out and that I didn't care - I was gonna claim the site head touched my butt and that our [Jewish] HR director was literally Hitler. Just dumb shit. The people in my dept ended up in a conference room and were talking about the confirmed people let go. We were trying to figure out the reason or spot a pattern. The best we could see was either they were 1-2 years from retirement...or were assholes that were difficult to work with.

Anyway - at that dept meeting with our dept manager...I was still largely unphased...but after he said our dept was not impacted - you could hear/see the sigh of relief. Ms Thickums actually cried, and the two younger guys in our dept were choked up. Our manager was teary eyed. And here my sociopathic ass was looking at them like "Da fuq?". I'm so out of touch. Two months ago I was a multi- millionaire. Now I'm only a multi-millionaire. [We've lost about $400k since January - I said $350, but looked in depth last night]

Walking through the site...people were all red in the face because their friends were let go. I was more or less like "well - fuck ____ in particular - I never got along with him...but, but, but...I actually liked ___...and how the fuck did they get rid of ____ when ____ is fucking useless? Damnit, _____ management is incompetent."

...I'm a sociopath
