So one of the reasons I never did it is because there weren't any protections in place from the government just giving themselves access to it anyways. They don't need to buy it, they've already got a copy.

Edit: that said there might have been some due process hurdles before (we don't need that anymore apparently), so it's entirely possible the access was restricted to a single request at a time. Maybe they'll just buy it after all.

Signal itself is actually a pretty secure app. Having official government conversations on it with a setting set to purge all data though is basically worse than what Hillary did. It's also really impressive to discuss active attack plans in a group setting that includes the director of the CIA and the head of intelligence and not a single fucking person thought to say "hey, maybe we should vet everyone here is cleared to be here."

That's also ignoring the very obvious lack of need to know, but it's not like they run the military or anything. Oh wait...

Apparently there is a large amount of skepticism, namely because the technology they're using (SAR) doesn't do well past the first few meters of the ground. There's been no peer review or anything either, so right now it's just these guys saying things. We'll see if their findings can be replicated or otherwise confirmed through other methods.

I hate to see the account go down (>$350k in the past 2 months), but I won't really need that money for 20 years. I don't plan to buy more houses with my brokerage accounts (I already have 5 - that's enough for now). I'm investing the exact same way I've done for the past decade+. This is such a crazy opportunity! And it's 1000% manufactured drama. This is basically artificial COVID...without the production STOPPAGE and subsequent shortages that COVID brought. This is just some kinks in the logistics. Americans will not stop buying, companies/countries will not stop selling.

Dead serious! Start dollar cost averaging!! And then I'm trying to time the market with another $40k+ lump sum (cutting our emergency fund down before building it back up slowly). I am budgeting like I should. I KNOW how much I need for health insurance deductibles (covered easily by our HSA), tuitions, mortgage and insurance deductibles, and rough numbers for food, lights, water, gas and car maintenance/repairs, and property taxes. My only unknown every year is income taxes. So I'm estimating for that).

I'll spend that money down and then allow my emergency fund to slowly grow back to where I want it. All while never stopping the investments. So, give it 5 years (like the 80% it is up in the 5 years since COVID) and I'm gonna be RICHER!
