Best BJS data I can find has whites committing over 33% more than blacks (29.6% versus 18.9%), but if you've got better data I'm all ears. My data is also older, so I'm not seeing any data about who is committing the acts in the past year where violence jumped 150%.Digital Masta wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 8:16 pmExcept for its usually black people(men), that's the group that victimizes Asians the most so they aren't really doing something to recognize it because nobody wants to talk about that.xandorxerxes wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 4:03 pmTwo factors that I imagine being in play are that a) despite being 5% of the Atlanta population, all of his targets were Asians and none were prostitutes and b) given the increased amount of violence against Asians the past year, it has to look like they're doing something to recognize it.Digital Masta wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 4:37 am If anything it is a hate crime against sex workers not Asians.

Porn music, thank me latter, NSFW. I didn't know this was a thing.
On another note I hate when the media throws out race stats without no context and no one else is there to challenge, scrutinize or question it.

I hate race stats especially with black men. What neighborhoods are black men more than likely to victimize Asians? That matters too.killacross wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 9:45 pm....except that it's Black men that are victimizing other Black men...so of course we talk about the 1/1000x that it's a white person...and then the 1/10,000x that it's a white copDigital Masta wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 8:16 pm Except for its usually black people(men), that's the group that victimizes Asians the most so they aren't really doing something to recognize it because nobody wants to talk about that.

-it wasn't an angry white, [likely trump supporter - this isn't fair, but this was the first story I saw about it] guy that was involved in the shooting -- his name indicates he's obviously of middle eastern heritagexandorxerxes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 4:01 am What's the misinformation? -he didn't use an "assault weapon" -- he used a pistol
-no such thing as an "AR15 style, assault pistol" -- it's a pistol with a conversion kit (typically an extended barrel, an accessories platform, and a forearm brace -- but it looks scary -- which is the point of the articles)
....so when they are saying they can stop attacks like this by banning assault weapons like this -- they are targeting semi-automatic pistols...not rifles, not military style weaponry, not automatic weapons
and there is no such thing as a gun buying loophole. Getting guns is harder in some states than others (I know Georgia was the easiest a few years ago, but that may have changed). Could the process be improved? Yes. Do I trust the people who are lying repeatedly with that process? Not a chance.

Re: There we go
Keep in mind that I get my news in (digital) print, so if some yoyo on NBC is spouting off nonsense I have no clue about it. There may be more information available by the time the print stories drop and so they're more accurate.
False information in news is a huge peeve of mine (obviously). I wanted to root out who was giving out that misinformation so I don't give them credence in the future. I saw a few reports of a "white male," but no Trump supporter or "angry" mention in any of the reputable news sites at least. I'm sure Reddit was having a field day with their narratives. Here's the picture they were going off of (on the left):
He's got a light skin tone, but calling him white was definitely a jump on the gun. There was one news site that issued a correction that I could spot, and one (independent, lulz UK) who hadn't corrected it. If others had printed stories with the same information they've either corrected them in a way that I didn't find them when searching or removed the story entirely (unlikely).
The "ar-15 style pistol" was actually a quote from law enforcement, also citing his shoulder brace. Actual gun is being reported as a Ruger ar-556. For those who aren't into guns and don't know: The Ruger has a 10.5 inch barrel. it was allowed to be classified as a pistol because of the lack of a buttstock, but the shoulder brace is designed to get around that (otherwise rifles with barrels under 16" have additional regulations/red tape). This is reportedly common practice. Gun news daily calls it "the AR-15 for anybody."
Given that it was a quote from law enforcement I don't know that there's much the news can do with it when they're trying to drop stories immediately (aside from not doing that, but that's how they keep afloat). Law enforcement improperly jumped the gun talking about the pistol without actually providing any good details, but it sounds like they're also mildly correct in their classification. I'd really prefer if they'd be more specific, but whatever.
So yeah, any place talking about angry Trump supporters can take a flying leap. I'm just glad the more reputable sources didn't (again, in print at least), I can account for bias but fuck misinformation.
I really appreciate the heads up, it got me to do a lot more research and I learned a few things.

Seriously I need a couple of you guys to watch Handsome Siblings on Netflix. The show is fucking awesome. It's a Kung-Fu soap opera with movie budget quality. Xioa'er the main character is like the Naruto of the Kung-Fu world, fucking hilarious with top notch comedy. At least watch 5 episodes, I can't stop watching on ep 20 now. It's the best thing since slice bread in terms of Kung-Fu shows. Forget why I loved Kung-Fu movies as a kid, good reminder.

Re: There we go
From what i've gathered locally, (know someone who know's someone who grew up in the same neighborhood) it was an AR-15 pistol, chambered in 5.56, using the pistol brace stock. It was essentially a short barreled, semi automatic rifle, using the pistol stock brace to get around the ATF classification. These do exist, I do have one in a similar mold (galil acehttps://iwi.us/product/gap39iisb/#:~:te ... %201960's.)killacross wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 9:07 am-no such thing as an "AR15 style, assault pistol" -- it's a pistol with a conversion kit (typically an extended barrel, an accessories platform, and a forearm brace -- but it looks scary -- which is the point of the articles)xandorxerxes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 4:01 am What's the misinformation? They can be chambered in just about any caliber you want, from 22lr up through .50 beowolf. It's classified as a pistol because it has a fixed stock length and the brace allows you to shoot it one handed if you want to.

You got one of these bad boys, dope! Good for you over the years it's been becoming common to hear about mass shootings in Colorado unfortunately. oh, so it's the exact same thing...but it's actually different?
GTheckOH!
I described it correctly before...it's a pistol with an extended barrel, a forearm brace (that CAN be put against your shoulder but isn't the same), and has an accessories platform (to put on things like tactical sights)
the difference in barrel length makes a HUGE difference in how the bullets behave (speed/accuracy/distance/stopping power). It's the same as trying to spit a wad vs shooting it thru a straw
You're not going to win a gun fight with a pistol vs a MCK..and you won't win a MCK vs a true combat rifle.
...But all three of those would win against unarmed bystanders at a grocery store

oh really? name some...only ones I can think of would be columbine (almost 20 yrs ago) and the guy that shot up the dark knight showing (almost a decade ago)
Re: There we go
Barrel length will improve accuracy and lethality down range, but there's no accuracy or lethality difference in a 5.56 nato round at 100 yards between an 8" barrel and a 16" barrel (in actuality, the 8" tends to be a bit more lethal than a 16" in the short range due to muzzle velocity). Round itself makes a huuuge difference, between bullet dynamics, trajectory, and soft tissue physics. The reason the US went to 5.56 from 7.62 from vietnam until now (and beyond) and just about every country in the NATO alliance switched from battle rifles to assault rifles around the 80's is purely due to the bullet (more accurate and you can carry more of them).killacross wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 9:25 pmoh, so it's the exact same thing...but it's actually different?

It's the reason that there wasn't a single person who was hit here that survived, the bullet does so much damage to the tissue.
My comment before was mostly to state that while what he used, a ruger 556, is called a pistol to get around ATF requirements, it was actually a short barreled carbine, shooting a rifle caliber bullet (5.56 nato/.223 remington), not a pistol caliber bullet(9mm luger, .45 acp., etc.).
I could go significantly more in depth on bullet dynamics if you want, but the replies will take significantly longer for me to compile.
