I personally know people who lost everything in Hurricane Helene.

It's my first time seeing the government directly lying to you...instead of hinting at it

What the heck are you complaining about? $750 is not good enough for you? Support Ukraine and Isreal, even if your people are in need first. Living in a daily clown world🤦🏾‍♂️.

I hope everyone pulls through.

@San...people lost absolutely everything. Imagine you only have the clothes you're wearing and what's in your pockets and what's in your car (if you actually left the area). The government dangles $750.. but denies it to you. Then, in the same press conference brags that they sent BILLIONS to Ukraine, Israel, (and probably Taiwan too in there somewhere), and spent millions more on illegals,

Shit is wild!!

Gets me thinking
@DM, does anyone still talk about the earthquake/tsunami and after effects from a decade ago?

**EDIT**
Re-reading this again today and I realized that I missed the joke...my bad San.

I was highly offended

No laughing matter, it was more aimed at the Government. Apologies if it came off that way. $750 is not going to cut it. I could have just said that.

Edit

Now I'm seeing $7B in untapped FEMA funds was found SMFH 🤯🤦🏾‍♂️

Not really, at least not where I'm at. I'm sure the areas that were affected may talk about it. One thing it did do is put an unfortunate pause on Japan's further development of its nuclear power plants. People are still squeamish about it, which is unfortunate.

And god damn...I truly despise government. How could anyone not look at the hurricane situation and not be redpilled that the government not only doesn't care about you...they actually hate you.

If you can dump money into a pandemic to 'save' people, you can do it for a hurricane/natural disaster.

Edit

^^^ For real though. Ppl have to stop and think. If the government is not helping people how they should be helped, like going all the fuck in (money, resources, manpower). That means you really fucking hate me. That is the only be the possible reason why you can pump billions to your 'allies' but not citizens of the country.

The fact that your people aren’t rioting and protesting at this moment is a mystery. Your government is busy supplying Ukrainian and Israel and whatever country the support with billions of dollars and leaves their own people in the dirt

Aaaand I'm a piece of shit

... Moved on with life. Bought 2 things I don't really need (Rev Air hairdryer for my daughter) and a Ninja Slushi for the household.

I could have probably donated that $700 instead.

Also, random. I unenrolled my Google Nest thermostats from the energy monitoring software program. Why the fuck would I pay full retail for the power company to be able to change my settings? Woke up this morning and the house was freezing. Looked at the thermostats on my phone and the settings and schedules had been completely shuffled.

FUCK. THAT!! So you have to contact customer service. They send a verification code. You reply with the code. They give you a phone call. The send a verification to your phone. You confirm. They send a verification to your email. You confirm. They ask you to confirm on the phone 1 more time.

Then 2-3 business days and I'll be unenrolled

This happens every year... why would we riot? We're not sending money to Ukraine, we're spending money rehabilitating military equipment that's sitting in the desert and then shipping it over there.

There's billions sitting in the FEMA disaster fund currently, they'll need more in the near future but they can make it work for now. The $750 in the news is an instant cash injection for people that desperately need food, water, or clothes. It takes filling out a couple of forms and you get access to the billions that FEMA has earmarked for this.

If you really want to blame someone, blame speaker Johnson for starting the fall Congress recess a week early and not voting on increasing FEMA's disaster fund. My issue is the people voting against it then blaming democrats...

Not how the US government works with funding... Congress has to earmark the funds for that. You can't just shift money around without congress approving it, and Speaker Johnson allowed the House of Representative to leave a week early for vacation so congress is not in session right now

That was not the issue. The problem was that Mayorkas directly said "we do not have enough money for the season". He was vague. If he said, "we have enough money for the immediate threat, but we will likely need more funding [or need spending authorized by congress]" - people would not have pounced.

In fact, HSI should have immediately put out a clarification statement that day or the next to say that he was unclear. Instead, the story was allowed to build and spread for a week before a watchdog group said that they/FEMA actually has billions in reserve...that are not allocated.

And $750 is not enough for an initial payment. People lost EVERYTHING!! Why is that hard to understand? It's not like they can walk to Walmart 2 blocks away. They have to completely relocate. $750 does not pay for a week of a hotel and doesn't pay for a month's worth of food.

Though I may be wrong - it might be per person and not per household.

Anyway - this has become another issue for me to future proof. I have a prepper kit...but don't have a FAST hurricane/tornado response kit (for leaving) or a hurricane preparedness kit (if we are staying). Gotta look into that. Honestly, thinking about it gives me anxiety with 2 young kids (5 and 2).

You won't find any objection from me that the government should be doing more, the problem is that there's so much partisan bullshit that no one can give the other side a "win". The problem in this instance is the separation of powers set forth in the constitution, Congress has to pass the funding for FEMA disaster recovery, no one else can put money in that fund. The federal government also cannot just mobilize the national guard, that's up to the individual state governors. There's so much bullshit bureaucracy now and FEMA was the department that was supposed to be able to cut through that bullshit and run the logistics of it

Out here, the Marshal Fire was a huge eye opener for me as to having an important grab bag
