Re: There we go
I think AMC WILL win...the on-demand model isn't viable long term. It barely works now because people are quarantined and separated.
I have a 110" projector screen and high def projector. What is to stop me from paying one rental fee...and inviting 4 friends over?
Suddenly...I pay a $20 fee one time, that say 50% goes to the studio...vs paying $100 in tickets and 75% goes to the studio and $50 in snacks and 100% goes to the theatre? Movie theatres are like gas stations -- they dont make the money on the movie/gas -- they make it on the junk food when you step inside
...It's a race to the bottom.

Oh, I know it's all on the junk food. But if the studios find the on-demand model to work in the their favor they aren't going to care about the theaters. Of course there will always be people that go to the movies. There are certain films that you definitely want that theater experience for, like Infinity War and Endgame.killacross wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 9:48 am I think AMC WILL win...the on-demand model isn't viable long term. If you have ever downloaded a recent film and it had hard-coded Korean subs on it it's because Korea already has this model. I believe there it is a delayed release of course with it coming out a few weeks after the initial theater release.
They aren't going to abandon theaters but AMC will also have to deal with this new post-COVID life. Meaning it won't look so good and if NBCUniversal wanted to be evil about it they could spin it to AMC being really inconsiderate of people who don't want to go to movie theaters.
Really this only becomes a huge deal if say Disney goes this route as well then you're really going to have a problem.

Why would only 50% go to the studios for the online rental?

...because they dont own a streaming platform
and if the money comes in waves (box office money, streaming money, then rental/dvd sales after that).
..they want as much as possible and they do that by controlling the release schedule. If Trolls made $100M in streaming...those people are likely not going to 1. rent the movie again or 2. see it in theatres
$100M in streaming...I bet they make 1/4th of that in theatre tickets (IF it goes to the box office, which I doubt it will) and probably a 1/10th of that in DVD sales.
...I bet it would have easily done 5x at the box office + all the money waves behind it

They do own a streaming platform - even if they didn't, they wouldn't lose 50% of revenues. A service like Netflix might even pay them to host the movie.
NBCUniversal is owned by Comcast. They not only own a streaming platform they can have immense leverage to strongarm anyone into doing whatever they want. "You can have 5%. Oh no, you don't like it? Shame that all of our customers are experiencing slow loading times on your platform."

I must say that I am surprised about the Joe Biden accusations, ironically the accuser said he grabbed her by the p**y. You know the Republicans are going to draw comparisons of media coverage lol.

Yep. Suddenly all the people shouting "believe women" are being a bit quiet, though I've seen some people online (I hate myself so I read comment sections) already swearing off Biden. Probably angry Bernie fans though.
The case here is flimsier than Kavanaughs. There's talk comparing the two, which conveniently skips our commander in chief. I don't know how McConnell can be taken seriously about wanting to hear from Biden when he supports the person audio-taped literally talking about intentionally walking in on changing underage women, but welcome to bizarro world.

Re: There we go
^^ congratulations she's on the up and up now.
My son walking and running a couple steps sometimes.
Just buried my cousin today, O.D on heroin. When it first happened I was afraid I wouldn't get to say my proper farewell but the funeral home allowed 10 people at a time, social distancing and hand sanitizer at the front of the door. The viewing was an hour and then after everyone got in the car and live streamed the service. It was pretty cool, of course it was kind of a family reunion too. If there wasn't a pandemic I'm sure everyone would be turning up till the next morning. Brought some St. Vincent rum and handing it out with cups to everyone in the parking lot, my cousin wouldn't want it any other way lol.

Yeah, that sucks. I remember when my brother ODed, luckily for him he came out of it essentially unscathed but he did have a "come to Jesus" type moment from it. That was almost 3 years ago and he refocused his life. Last year (late 2018-2019) he found his calling in real estate. He made next to nothing last year and within the first 4 months of 2020 he's on track to make over $60,000.

That's an amazing turn around @DM, I remember you sharing that. Time flies!
It's funny cause my cousin has been 'about that life' for pretty much his entire life and I would always prepare for hearing him get murdered or something. He's always been in and out of jail.
He even beat a murder case and I was telling him he got a second chance and live. He wanted to buy his first home next year and I was just giving him some pointers of what I know, although I'm no expert but I own my property. So actually hearing he went out like this really surprised me and pissed me the fuck off at the same time.

Re: There we go
You know what I was thinking about recently as I watch old episodes of Scrubs (Sam Lloyd who played Ted died recently), all of the adult female hotties from when we were in junior high school and high school are all like 40-50+ years old now. Was watching Scrubs season 4(Scrubs started when I was in high school but I became a fan of it my junior year of college) which was the season Heather Graham was on and she's gorgeous and seeing her now it's like..."Oh right, she's 50 now." She's by no means unattractive now but she's now in the older mother/grandmother role range now. I'm thinking about the American Pie ladies...remember Shannon Elizabeth? She's 46. I mean shit...ya'll remember Elizabeth Hurley? She's like 54.

I wonder how much of finding older people attractive as you age is seeing the people you grew up with age really gracefully. When you're 15, 40 looks old. When you're 30+ you think of those people who were hot when you were 15 and think "40 year olds look great." I look at highschool/college age people to me and now all I can think of is that they look way too young. Not interested in their shit.

Re: There we go
So far the wife's first day at work and working from home is a fucking disaster. She was pissed off at me because I came home late. I told her I wanted to have the weekend for myself or at least a day to myself after my cousin funeral. So after the funeral this women had the audacity to drop off my son at my moms house and leave him with me. I didn't mind because it's my son but I thought she was very inconsiderate. In her defense she is with him more times out of the day then I am and she said she was stressed out. I was planning on coming home on Sunday but since my son slept over I stayed an extra day and came back home in the morning. We started arguing as soon as I stepped in the door. She has calm down a bit since then but she was also pissed cause when she was at my moms she seen my sister baking a cake and asked for me to give her a slice. I brought back a slice but my crime was they were two small slices and I ate one of them lol. She was like didn't you have a lot of cake last night, I said no (a lie, and she knew it) lol.

In some ways Marisa Tomei is hotter now at 55 then she was back in the day but I think part of that is the evolution of style. When she was very young it was the age of poofy hair and all that.xandorxerxes wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 2:00 pm I wonder how much of finding older people attractive as you age is seeing the people you grew up with age really gracefully. As someone who had spent a long time working with junior high school, high school and college age kids I can tell you that if someone is under 25 I'm just like, "Oh, you're a baby." Especially the women. I honestly can't stand young women, I mean now that I'll be 35 this year I totally understand as a man the idea of dating a 21 year old and then knocking her up young so she has plenty of time to have my babies. But they are just so...stupid. I mean stupid in the way that we were all stupid at at that age. I mean 21 year old me and 34 year old me are completely different people. I think my core, core values have remained the same but I've evolved significantly.
And in Japan I find the 30+ year old women significantly more attractive than those under 30. They've figured a significant amount of their shit out.
