To be fair, Vance said he hasn't said thank you "once in this entire meeting" (but really meaning since he and Trump came into office).

Ukraine has everything to lose. US has everything to gain (though it's risky). Of course the US wants this deal...but Ukraine NEEDS this deal. US protects Ukraine and hopefully Russia doesn't do anything dumb to antagonize...it could quickly escalate.

I doubt it would become WW3, because that would mean Russia, China, and N Korea vs the rest of the world. Russia has nukes. China has nukes. N Korea has nukes. Russa can't be trusted to keep their word. It was when Obama was president - they agreed to start reducing their arsenal. The US reduced ours significantly. Russia did not. We're going to be involved regardless. I am a fan of it because it should stalemate the area. Ukraine will basically fight until they are all killed. Russia has no reason to negotiate with Ukraine. They barely have a reason to negotiate with Europe. Of course...this was years ago before their military aged men have been churned through. Also, that was speculation because there were tons of reports about hte Russian military being woefully unprepared (which military leadership had all become multi millionaires). Who knows what is actually going on at this point?

We do need it - US has amazing natural resources, but rare earth minerals aren't one of them. Tech uses a whole lot of them. This deal was basically free for us, Putin gets what he wants and we get a shit ton of money. Putin ignores the deal later and so do we.

Supposedly we have leaked kgb intelligence that puts Russia's death rate at about 2.5x Ukraine's... Or about 50x released Russian numbers. I didn't know the context on the thank you... But that almost makes it more absurd. Zelenskyy wanted one thing - security guarantees - and the US wasn't giving it. We wanted half their minerals for a nebulous "oh yeah our mining will be there so we'll probably protect you."
