I'd rather Joy Boy somehow just be using Luffy's body as opposed to him being Joy himself. Because it's been 20+ years of One Piece and over 1000 chapters and there hasn't ever been a hint of this.

I think it’s more of a title given to the person capable of hearing the voice of all things. It’s not that he’s reincarnated, but he’s the inheritor of the will of the original Joyboy. This series has always dealt with inheriting wills

But then there's the devil fruit thing. We know there's something important about Luffy's fruit. We just don't know what it is yet.
