we didnt get a good explanation of awakening devil fruits the first time through....or the second time...so now it just looks like things will happen and we will say that its because the powers are awakened

I feel like Oda never really went into too much detail about power ups. Even Haki feels like people are just kinda guessing what’s what, I mean, we still have no idea what Sanjis fire legs are and that was like 700 chapters ago lol.

Haki is just the same as any other series that has ki. chakra or spiritual pressure. That's easy to wrap your head around since damn near every action shonen does it. It's a user manipulating their body's natural energy essentially. It's just that one form of that energy is extremely rare. Sanji being able to light up he leg isn't really that big of a deal considering all the other crazy shit that happens in OP. However DF awakenings are a big deal, they change the nature of the devil fruit ability and therefore warrant a proper explanation . I mean Don Flamingo's awakening was ridiculously powerful.
