^ Looks like they're raising the price of games this gen from $60 to $70 each so game pass is a fairly decent deal. As for the series x itself, I still don't see any point in getting one other than it being cheaper than a gaming pc. That's cause a gaming pc can have better graphics than a console, be able to be used for more than just games and pretty much every game being released for xbox is coming to pc too.
Is Microsoft still moving towards the "many devices one platform" thing? I'm kinda surprised the consoles don't just run Windows at this point.
This is probably the last era type of consoles before the many devices.

My best friend got an XBawks. He said that it is awesome and that Game Pass is the shit.

...What he didn't figure in is that he bought a $500 console...and is paying $180+/yr to play it.

He said...that's 3 good games. I have been so far out of the gaming loop...looks like he may have a point
If I do get one I realized from watching reviews that I need a new TV to go with it.

We have a 4k TV (by accident).. I think we can get 4k programming from Amazon prime... But can't get fast enough internet for it to be useful (we have 10 Mbps DSL)....but a cable provider is moving into the area with 400 Mbps top speed

... Oh well.. Maybe one day

No, they aren't there yet, but they are getting closer to it.

Unless you got one of the few tvs from this year with one, you could just get a atsc 3.0 tuner and receive 4k broadcast tv for free.

#1. Technology is amazing  :o !!
#2. I have been so far out of the loop. I used to work in the Sears Electronics Dept. It was all about keeping up with the latest in technology - so you could upsell. I was there years and years ago....I remember when the US forced the conversion to digital TV tuners...then delayed it...then sent out vouchers to get replacement boxes. I remember when 1080p was the new thing. I remember when BluRay vs HDDVD was a thing. 120 Hz refresh rates and Tru 24p cinema etc etc etc.

I'm getting old
...but cool --- I don't think we watch enough TV to really merit any concern/interest. Not even sure if my market has/offers it

The tl;dr rundown is that anybody that bought a TV last year or for the most part this year wasted their time and money.

But yeah 2019-2021 is gonna be big changes as far as technology is concerned.
HDMI 2.1 was finally released last month
Apple released DisplayPort 2.0
ATSC 3.0 started getting rolled out this year with some markets already airing 4k content, but unlike the ATSC tuners that allowed for 1080i broadcasts we have today, ATSC 3.0 is voluntary for the networks.
Japan and Korea started broadcasts in 8k resolution
Bluetooth 5.2 is coming out early next year and will allow for better audio transmission and lower battery usage
PCIe 4 was released this past summer while production on PCIe 5 was started this year
Wifi6e was introduced as the FCC allowed the use of the 6Ghz bandwidth
Starlink, which is SpaceX's leo constellation satellite internet service, started beta testing service in parts of the US and Canada
USb 3.2 gen 2x2 which allows 20Gb/sec transfers was released
Samsung was rumored to be coming out with a graphene battery that will have bigger charges, will allow for faster charges, and more charging cycles than lithium ion battery of the same size. And they wouldn't have the heat problem that lithium ion batteries do.

Don't forget AMD if you are big into gaming or just want more efficiency , faster speeds and more power for your desktop/laptop.

The only thing AMD did CPU wise was make further refinements on their 7nm process, introduce their own graphics cards with ray tracing and slap a last gen CPU into the newest Playstation and Xbox consoles. So like Intel and their upcoming 14nm CPUs early next year they haven't really done anything new aside from PCIe 4 support which I already mentioned.

Thinking of remodeling the master bedroom closet. Looks like a "fun" project to tackle

Basically...it's the whole rabbit hole thing. I moved a light fixture from over the door to the center of the room. Then upgraded it to something cooler. Then noticed a water stain in the ceiling that was hidden by the existing shelving. So repaired that...and decided to paint the ceiling and walls again. Then thought (I should tear out the carpet and do luxury vinyl planks for the floor...then thought I should just do custom shelves.)

My wife isn't convinced yet. But I would do a bracket/shelf/closet a day until it's complete. Looks like a 2-3 week project....preeeeetty sure when it's done, she'd cream them panties and want to move back downstairs (then I could do the same for the guest bedroom's closet - the room we sleep in)

So the wife has been holding this over my head for about a week now (honestly I think she's been enjoying it with a kind sadistic relish uncharacteristic of her personality) but long story short, she went in for her most recent ultrasound and was informed of the baby's gender.

I was barred from the room(I shit you not.... I was fucking livid!!!!) and I couldn't get shit out of her Dr.(my father was an MD, I can assure you he would never have subjected a patients husband to this sort of unethical chicanery).
Needless to say I've been quite miffed with her all week, but for the most part I've kept my cool and attended to her needs because I do after all love my wife... and it's still a crime to lock your spouse in the basement against her will(last I checked).

She's been undergoing a lot of mood swings as the delivery date inches closer(March!) so I've been clutching that perspective for dear life whenever I feel perturbed.

This afternoon I had to make a run to CVS to pick up her usual cocktail of prenatal vitamins and prescriptions(this woman pops more pills than an 80's stockbroker). As I pulled back into the driveway I was just about ready to start round 12 of "Just tell me already goddamnit" when I noticed an envelope taped to the exterior of our screen door.

The envelope contained a note obviously written by her(she has impeccable handwriting, another source of unyielding annoyance with me) that said and I quote: "I know I've been a bitch, here's hoping she doesn't inherit that gene".

That's her not so subtle way of telling me its a girl.
I'm not going to lie, I wanted a boy...........I REALLLY wanted a boy, but fellas I gotta tell ya...what I felt in that moment... I wish I could bottle it and sell it on Amazon.

Every ounce of lingering annoyance and anger I've been feeling all at once floated away like jetsam from a garbage scow. The realization hit me in a wave of euphoria so powerful I literally screamed like a school girl(not my proudest moment).

I'm going to have a baby girl.
Pandemic be damned, THIS is what life is all about.

Bro you are going to lose your fucking shit', yell at the top of your fucking lungs in anger and make your wife cry. You can't prepare enough for a womans' fucking mood swings. It doesn't end there, it could be a couple months after the pregnancy. My wifey was a deer caught in headlights for a couple weeks. I automatically went into survival mode, Naruto/Sasuke Ninja type shit. She had to do a c-section and didn't plan for it (research, mentally and emotionally ).

Luckily we both wanted ours to be a secret, it wouldn't end well if I wanted to know and she kept the gender from me.

Grats on the little girl!

Unfortunately her Dr. was just complying with HIPAA, but totally get that it sucks.

I thought I didn't care about the sex. People would ask...do you want a boy or a girl...and I would say - What does it matter now? I just want a healthy baby.

When we went in for the ultrasound to find out the gender...we found out it was a girl. Of course I Googled like crazy about how to read an ultrasound before going. My immediate thoughts were "Huh, it doesn't look like a boy....but I'm sure it is." So when the technician said...Girl...I thought "Huh, really thought it would be a boy...maybe there's still some time." That's when I realized I actually DID have a preference. This all happened within like 5 seconds. I wasn't upset tho -- just more of a self-observation.

Anyway -- a little girl is SUCH a crazy blessing! Parenthood is weird. My daughter just hit 18 months last week. Looking back, I can see how much it has changed me. I didn't worry before. But as the pregnancy moved along...I started having nightmares about an unseen baby being sick or disabled. Then when I found out it was a girl, there were nightmares about her being stolen or kidnapped. Then when she was born, there were dreams about not being able to provide. That all went away with the hectic schedule of dealing with a newborn.

Just fair warning -- statistically, the first 18 months are supposed to the most difficult time for a marriage. I have found that to be true (particularly if you throw in live in home inlaws that annoyed the shit outta you for 8-9 of those months.). But it gets better. You get into a rhythm with your spouse...and the baby actually grows and learns and adapts (my next big milestone that I'm looking for is her actually talking instead of screaming when she wants something). It is a blessing to watch your children grow....and the amount of love and joy that my daughter has brought into our lives is immeasurable.

tl;dr: CONGRATS!! Get ready to enjoy the ride! It honestly goes by so fast!!

God damn my left arm is still numb. Surgery ended like 6 hours ago. I can move my fingers and my shoulder is starting to hurt a little meaning this stuff has got to be wearing off.

Apparently it has more to do with my arm and shoulder being so tightly wrapped up.

What exactly did they have to do with your shoulder if you don't mind me asking. Did you feel pain and they said something tore inside?
