    Okay, here we go...

This section is dead. That is pretty obvious, for whatever reason. I guess people were just waiting for some Admin or mod to come in and say that we should so and so series.

This is our scanlation section, we have to decide as a community what we want to do, or we won't be getting anywhere. Raug/Saki took the first step and made this section for us, and helped to create the teams of Translators, Cleaners, Editors/QC.

We have to take the next step here.

    Here's Krozar's Post:

    The guidelines are in bold.

In this thread, I am not going to go about presenting numerous Mangas here, only to have the rest do same. Nor am I going to go and present forward newer ones. I just looked through the potential series and took the mangas that met the guidelines to some extent.

    The mangas are:
    • Lucky Star (Exception from Guideline 5)
Lucky Star's story portrays the lives of several school girls attending a Japanese high school with a very loose humor tone.

The setting is based on the town Kasukabe in Saitama Prefecture. The female lead is Konata Izumi, an athletic and intelligent girl who, despite these attributes, is not in a sports club, and has low grades. Her laziness at school is due to her love for anime and video games and lack of interest in anything else. In other words: she's an otaku.

The serialization began with the four main characters in their first year of high school: Konata Izumi, Kagami Hiiragi, Tsukasa Hiiragi, and Miyuki Takara. As the story progresses, they move onto their second and third year.
    • Black Lagoon (Exception from Guideline 5)
      From VIZ:
Lock n' load with the baddest soldiers of fortune ever to hit the high seas of Southeast Asia! Aboard their World War II era torpedo boat, the Black Lagoon, Dutch the Boss, Benny the Mechanic, Revy Two Hand, and Rock, the salaryman from Japan, deliver anything, anywhere. In the dangerous underworld of the Russian Mafia, Chinese Triads, Colombian drug cartels, crazed assassins, and ruthless mercenaries, it's hard to know who to trust. But if you've got a delivery to make, and you don't mind a little property damage along the way, you can count on the crew of the Black Lagoon.
    • Shura no Mon (Exception from Guideline 4)
The story is about Mutsu Tsukumo, a young and normal looking youth who challenges great foes to prove that his style of fighting is the best in the world. His Ryuha, or fighting style is called Mutsu Enmei Ryu. A style that is said to have never lost in its 1000 year history. Tsukumo not yet a perfect fighter also increases his strength as the story progresses.
    • Sidooh
Follows the path of two brothers aiming to become samurai near the end of the Edo period.
    • Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa (Exception from Guideline 4)
44 years old, single, working in a construction company for his entire life. All Kurosawa wants is a little respect from his co-workers. And a little popularity won't hurt. Unfortunately Kurosawa's plans fail miserably from time to time and one day, he finds himself right in the middle of a fight against...delinquent middle schoolers?
    • Jackals (Exception from Guideline 4)
Cicero City, a city infested with immigrants where people of all races scramble to find work and shelter. Infested with destruction and slaughter, it's a chaotic society. Living on the outside of society, the Jackals are professional assassins with no allegiance, available to the highest bidder. This is their story.
    • Heureka (Exception from Guideline 4)
Heureka is a manga set in antiquity, during the Second Punic War between the small city state of Syracuse and the Roman Empire. The comic is based around the life and times of the famous mathematician Archimedes. Archimedes was not only a gifted mathematician but also an engineer of repute. During the conflict with the Romans, Archimedes was supposedly responsible for creating a number of war machines that devastated the Roman legions before they eventually got the upper hand. The exact nature and use of these devices is controversial, and exists more in the realm of legend than actual historical fact.
    • Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru
Kohinata Minoru is a college student at a college that is popular for its sports rather than academic orientation. Although he starts out as a gymnast alongside his friend, Nana, Minoru is bullied by the higher ranked gymnasts. One evening, a karate student at the college, Mutou Ryuuji, witnesses Minoru being bullied and comes to the rescue... but his intentions aren't to save Minoru, but to drag him into the world of karate. Minoru makes new friends and learns some of their dark pasts, including a shocking death that reveals motives for revenge.
These were the mangas that seemed most valid to me, in other words they met the guidelines outlined by Krozar to an extent. The first two are exceptions to number five mostly because they are both popular and are largely not scanned.

Out if these, I want the TAL community to select via poll what they want their scanlation group to do.

I figured I might as well get something rolling until this section becomes active enough to sustain itself.

Edit: If either Krozar or Saki can put up a message on the main page where more people could see it. That would make it easier.

Edit Two: Updated the Manga list with links to MangaUpdates page.

Edit Three: Added a Synopsis to all the mangas to make everyone's lives easier [From MangaUpdates]... So vote already, those that haven't...

Edit Four: Black Lagoon removed from list of choices, replaced with Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru. If you want to change your vote to KSKM, PM Saki, he'll do that for you

Edit Five: The Poll is now officially closed, the first Manga series has been decided through a landslide victory (it was only 49 voters - alas I am thankful for that). "The Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa" is [TAL]'s first Scanlation Project

Thanks for doing this, Flare. I've been meaning to get this going again, but have had other issues to deal with lately.

I will say that the selections of the poll sound great to me. Also, depending on how many people we have to work, it doesn't have to be limited to one. It will just require more dedication to pick up more than one series. However, I firmly believe we should only start out with one series.

Edit: once I get the front page working as it should, I'll throw this up there. Unfortunately, I did something and posts no longer correctly appear between the two.

    Re: Okay, here we go...

You should switch out Black Lagoon for Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru. Since Black Lagoon already has a group, that's only 2 chapters behind, scanlating it. Unless you are trying to do the doujins and special chapters from the artbooks.

Plus KSKM does comply with all of the prerequisites that Krozar made.

Thanks for the update, I think missed KSKM :\

Anyways, I removed Black Lagoon, however, I don't think I can edit the poll. So if anyone can do that for me as well as dissolve the votes for Black Lagoon, that would be helpful.

Voted for KSKM. Since I already started reading it I really want to continue doing so. It was a difficult choice though. Jackals and Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa are really good choices as well. Did strays & Illuminati drop Jackals or something? It's only 7 volumes long. So I expected them to have it complete scanlated by now..

Also where is Setris? His clean was obviously the best out there. Maybe the cleaners can work together with him on keeping the releases as high quality as possible. Not to say the other cleaners sucked, but Setris was just better.

Did you vote for BL before? If so, you probably can't because you're logged as having voted for it before. I can manually add a vote if needed.

On related note, because the options changed, if you voted for something and would like to have it changed, PM me. This only applies if your vote involves KSKM.

I voted for the karate one. I wanted to read that for a long time, but no scans. Would definitely read if you guys took it up.

But those were Eddie's cleans, and the translation was DD's. Though the end result was definitely outstanding.

As for the working together, I agree, but first we need to actually form a whole team which knows everyone's timezones, how busy the members are with their personal life, etc. With this I'm sure everything can run much more smoothly and even more so efficiently.

As for the quality, we can consolidate some tutorials to help new comers. We can also have a specific thread for cleaners/translators to get their quality rated and also get feedback from others.

But this comes a bit later, at least a few days before the poll deadline.

I vote Minoru, but only due to lack of interest in Heureka.

If we ever take on a second project, I hope we go with it. Definitely my second choice.

I accidently voted on the wrong one.
Please change my vote to Kurosawa.
To truly understand the meaning of Clay you must understand that everything is Clay however it must first exhibit its Clayness to be considered Clay. You must be able to realize how Clay something is before you can call it Clay.

Yeah, I did not realize Kurosawa was a Noboyuki Fukumoto manga, so my vote has also been changed. As much as I like Minoru, I like Akagi, Kaiji and Gai more, so I have to go with what I know for sure will be quality.
