Wikipedia Plot
In the far future where space travel has become the norm, Marika Kato is a high school girl living a rather ordinary life as a member of the space yacht club and a part-time job at a high-class retro café. One day, Marika meets subordinates of her recently deceased father who reveal her father was a space pirate. By law, only direct descendants can only inherit her father's spaceship, the Bentenmaru, which her father's subordinates ask that she takes over as their new Captain. Thus begins Marika's life as a Space Pirate.

My Thoughts
The flying seems pretty realistic and the futuristic vibe also fits well into the show, as the technology is plausible. The characters are interesting and with good art and personality. What I like is that the lead is female, something we don't see too much in anime. Overall I liked the ep. The show can go either way from this point, too often we see great starting eps and the show ends up complete garbage. I am currently about to watch episode 2.

US Marines Urinate on Afghan Corpses.
I am sure everyone has heard of this by now.

Makes me furious. What's the point of the Afghan war? Is it attrition? Or was it to win the hearts and minds--spreading freedom and Democracy (envision flying doves and fireworks)?

These Marines are a shame to this entire effort and for every Taliban fighter they killed, they just recruited dozens more.

I have seen articles of former Marines making every excuse in the book for these guys, but to me it sounds like a drug addict in denial. We're not supposed to be comparing ourselves to the Taliban.

I am realizing this is why I am starting to like the Occupy movement so much, because they're doing what Americans do all over the world: occupying something that doesn't belong to them.

There will be backlash from this and we'll deserve every bit of it.

Boycott Dr Pepper
The Dr Pepper Snapple group (controls most of Dr Pepper distribution in the US) recently forced a small plant that has been bottling Dr Pepper for over 120 years in rural Texas to stop producing Dr Pepper. This lant is a Texas tradition which includes a Dr Pepper that uses real cane sugar; supports local jobs; has festivals; and is the centerpoint of Dublin Texas.

Lived near that plant for several years and hate to see this happen to it. It was plants like that who built the Dr Pepper brand.
